Parenting during a pandemic is full of unexpected joys and struggles. Whether you have attended Saint Mark's in person before or are joining us now for the first time, we're glad you're here.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT & INDIGENOUS JUSTICE.

All parents and called parishioners are encouraged to contact the Sunday School Coordinator and Intermediate class teacher, Anne Stick: or 44, about sharing in the Sunday School TeamвЂ™s ministry and serving as an assistant. The students in the intermediate class participate in multiple age appropriate outreach projects during the year, broadening their sense of ministry. The Intermediate students help create their own puppets and sets and are thus deeply immersed in the Bible stories they preform. The Intermediate class has a special ministry of teaching Godly Play stories to the younger Sunday School students through puppet shows. The Intermediate class is taught by exploring studentsвЂ™ spirituality while developing their God given creativity through the practice of art and theater. This allows for Bible study, group discussion and prayer appropriate to the maturity of the students. The curriculum followed in this class is the Living the Good News Curriculum, which is lectionary based, following the Gospel stories the children will hear with their parents in the 10:30 service. After class the children are welcome to join their parents for worship at the 10:30 service (during the sermon they may leave for a special childrenвЂ™s sermon). This class meets upstairs from 9:15 вЂ“ 10:15 a.m. Intermediate ClassД¬hildren in the 4th and 5th grade may join the Intermediate Sunday School class. All parents and called parishioners are encouraged to contact the Sunday School Coordinator, Anne Stick: or 44, about sharing in the Sunday School TeamвЂ™s ministry and serving as a Sunday School teacher. Parents are asked to contribute a light snack to the вЂњFeastвЂќ portion of the class one Sunday a season. Each teacher generally serves for a season or a semester. Every class is run by a teaching team of at least one Storyteller and at least one Doorperson. After developing mastery of simple stories, the children move on to more complex versions. Children are encouraged to question aspects of the stories and respond with art and creative play. Stories, adapted from the Bible, are not merely told from memory, but shown to the children, by teachers using engaging manipulatives. The Godly Play curriculum, created by Father Jerome Berryman, shows the influence of the Montessori teaching method. Upstairs, from 9:15-10:15, we offer Godly Play classes for children ages 3 to 3rd grade in two classes: Godly Play I (age 3-Kingergarten) and Godly Play II (1st grade -3rd grade). Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond.

The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, gain religious language and enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Godly PlayД¬hildren have an innate sense of the presence of God. A craft or group project is done together during this time. On the first Sunday of every new liturgical season (Advent, Lent, etc.), all of the Sunday School classes meet together for an вЂњAll Sunday School Event.вЂќ This is a time for learning about the meaning of each Church season, learning the stories, and understanding why and how the Church celebrates this part of the Church year. Our Sunday School program is staffed by dedicated, experienced volunteers and provides a progressive curriculum of religious education, designed to encourage childrenвЂ™s active participation in story, ritual, and liturgy. The Cathedral provides many opportunities for spiritual formation for children of all ages.
